- ➤ A free Halloween event called Cockpit Close-Up will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8-11 a.m. at the historic World War II hangar on E. Fighter Aces Drive in Mesa—a meeting where city departments, businesses, and a volunteer pilot group will host trick-or-treat and present private aircraft for families in costume to enjoy. - ➤ Downtown Mesa’s Sunset Market will return this week as local vendors fill Main and Macdonald Streets with handmade trinkets, sweet treats, dinners and nourishing drinks — and live music will be featured on Friday, Oct. 10 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mesa Independent

- ➤ Gas prices in Mesa are rising after a massive fire kept a Chevron refinery in California offline since last Thursday. Experts say prices may increase by up to 15 cents a gallon until imported gas from Asia starts arriving — a change that could keep rates high through the holidays. KJZZ

- ➤ Williams Field High School held a ribbon-cutting on Sept.26 for its new criminal justice facility—now offering hands-on training in law enforcement, forensics, dispatch, and corrections—with technology provided by local agencies. - ➤ The Mesa City Council voted unanimously to approve a three-year contract valued at $1.2M a year for a mobile natural gas supply to support the city's Energy Resources Department — the contract will let the city use pre-selected suppliers during extreme weather events or maintenance.
