  • Mesa’s Merry Main Street holiday event offers ice skating at the Plaza at Mesa City Center daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., except on Saturday when it starts at 12 p.m. through Jan. 10 — a Frozen screening on Friday and a food truck event on Saturday add fun.  Mesa Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mesa High School administrators Kirk Thomas and David Klecka were placed on paid leave after officials determined that they did not report a February 12 incident — Mesa Police submitted charges over winter break and the investigation continues.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NOAA renewed Mesa's StormReady Community certification for an extra four years on Monday, Jan. 5 (valid through 2030), confirming the city's commitment to planning, communication and coordination to protect residents during severe weather.  Mesa Now
  • The Mesa Board of Adjustment will consider a special use permit on Wednesday for the Legacy Recovery Center LLC transitional community residence at 2338 E. Minton St. The review meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. (lower council chambers, 57 E. First St.).  Mesa Independent
  • The Mesa Board of Adjustment will review a special use permit for Legacy Recovery Center on Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. at 57 E. First St. The facility at 2338 E. Minton St. spans 0.5 acres and may house up to 10 adults receiving substance and alcohol treatment + therapy.  Mesa Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Novo Nordisk's FDA-approved Wegovy pill launched Monday and is now available at local pharmacies — higher doses will arrive by week's end. The pill must be taken on an empty stomach and treats obesity while reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.  KJZZ
