- ➤ On Oct. 27, 2025, students from Higley High and Williams Field High rallied by crafting nearly 100 get-well cards for an injured Montana officer recovering at home with his family; their heartfelt initiative included playful messages (such as nods to favorite treats) that brightened spirits. - ➤ Mesa Community College student Maximillian Vokoun was named one of five national recipients of the prestigious Ennes Educational Foundation Trust and Robert D. Greenberg Scholarships for his broadcast engineering achievements. He will use the $3,000 award to support his studies + work at KTVK/KPHO. Mesa Independent
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tonto National Forest extended its temporary closure of the lower Salt River area to most horses and pack animals after Equine Vesicular Stomatitis Virus was detected. The order (which affects 17 wild horses among nearly 300 roaming in the area) may last until March. KJZZ

- ➤ On Dec. 8, the Mesa City Council voted unanimously to recommend a series 7 beer and wine bar license to the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control for Royal Palms Golf Course (located at 1415 E. McKellips Road) with Little Oasis Club LLC as the applicant. Mesa Independent
