  • Fry's Marketplace at 25105 S. Ellsworth Road in Queen Creek sold a winning Powerball ticket valued at $100,000 for the Dec. 13 drawing + Safeway at 1855 N. Power Road in Mesa sold a $50,000 winner.  Mesa Independent

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Seven lottery winners claimed jackpots from drawings held Dec. 11-13, including a $50,000 Powerball win in Mesa from a Safeway on Power Road. The largest prize was a $250,000 jackpot won from a Triple Twist ticket bought at a Phoenix QuikTrip near 19th and Southern avenues.  12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. David Farnsworth from Mesa plans to propose a law in the 2026 legislative session that would require public schools teaching evolution to also present creationism (referred to as intelligent design) as an alternative. Opponents argue the change may blur the separation between church and state.  KJZZ
  • A new ASU report finds that kids in Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley are 10% more likely to graduate high school with a 95% graduation rate, and each dollar invested returns $14.79 to the state. The study shows nearly $400 million in economic impact, highlighting strong educational benefits.  KJZZ

  • Rapid Refuel, a Mesa convenience store at 6951 S. Southern Ave, is seeking a new series 10 beer and wine license after Mesa City Council unanimously voted on Nov. 17 to recommend its application to the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control + agent Meagan Jean Nelson is listed.  Mesa Independent
