- ➤ Mesa had a growth rate of 0.9% for the year ending July 1, making it fall behind the state average, according to new estimates by the Arizona Commerce Authority. With 529,391 residents, the city ranks third in the state and second in the Valley after Phoenix. Mesa Independent

- ➤ A Mesa lawmaker plans to introduce a bill in the 2026 legislative session to require public schools to teach evolution alongside intelligent design (creationism). A Tempe legislator critiqued the proposal for lacking scientific rigor as the curriculum debate continues. Mesa Independent

- ➤ A controversial transitional housing project called Sunaire at the old Grand Hotel faces possible delays after the city council postponed a vote on furnishing new apartments for Mesa’s Off the Streets program.
