  • Mesa Public Schools discussed combining Emerson Elementary and Carson Junior High into one modernized campus during its Dec. 3 budget meeting. The plan would rebuild the aging schools at an estimated cost of about $95 million (nearly $12 million more than renovating them separately).  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa council approved formation of the Palo District to manage the 80-acre former Fiesta Mall site in west Mesa, paving the way for a possible theme park. Two council members and state appointees form a four-person board to ensure independent governance and development with no financial risk to the city.  The Mesa Tribune
