BUSINESS NEWS

  • Boeing won a multibillion-dollar Defense Department contract to build Apache helicopters at its Mesa facility, receiving about $4.7 billion with nearly half coming from international buyers from Egypt, Kuwait, and Poland—deliveries will start in 2028.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arizona Board of Regents has launched the College Ready AZ FAFSA Scholarship to help 25 high school seniors earn a one-time $2,000 aid by completing their FAFSA and planning to attend a public college in cooperation with Arizona Community Foundation, Helios Education Foundation and Valley of the Sun United Way. The program runs from November through April — winners will be announced monthly based on an essay about how the aid will support their education and community goals.  East Valley Tribune

FINANCE NEWS

  • A single speeding ticket is estimated to raise Arizona drivers' annual insurance premiums by $1,071—moving average costs from $3,808 to $4,880 and totaling over $3,200 extra in three years. Drivers can take defensive driving courses or shop around for quotes to help lower rates at their next policy renewal.  12 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A survey of over 1,100 Valley Metro riders found that 81% felt secure with improved safety and cleanliness, as rail incidents dropped 54% and weekday ridership rose by 21% compared to last year. HEALTH NEWS

  • Animal clinics in Arizona reported a recent rise in parvovirus cases among dogs. Experts said the virus attacks the immune system and can be life-threatening if pets are not fully vaccinated—clinics noted a significant increase compared to last year.  KJZZ

  • A recent Coupon Follow report shows that buying secondhand can save Mesa shoppers about $1,700 yearly and they should explore thrift stores for unique holiday bargains.
