COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 100 HonorHealth Ambassadors volunteered on Nov. 22 to help local nonprofits support families and fix neighborhoods. In Mesa, volunteers repainted a transitional home for families in crisis—while teams in Tempe packed meals for children.  Mesa Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • ASU professor Chris Wharton advised Mesa households to reduce food waste this holiday season by using freezers for leftovers and sharing extra food with doggy bags. He noted that a typical family of four wastes about $3000 a year—small changes can help save money and food.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Department of Transportation issued three new specialty license plates that help raise funds for charities as buyers pay about $25 a year with $17 supporting a designated nonprofit. The new plates—Ovarian Cancer Awareness, Phoenix Mercury, and Verde Valley Wine Trail—join existing options to bring the total to 109.  KJZZ
  • Mesa City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 3 to recommend a series 10 beer and wine store license for Zong Smoke Shop to the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control. The application for JKRO SVC 1 LLC at 1710 W. Southern Ave. Suite B7 — with agent Jacob Joseph Krabbe is under state review.  Mesa Independent
