ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mesa’s Office of Economic Development was honored with four Golden Prospector Awards of Merit from the Arizona Association for Economic Development—recognizing excellence in its special event, website, business builder program, and retail campaign that supported women entrepreneurs and local investment.  Mesa Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mesa Public Schools board voted 5-0 to create Franklin High School and Shepherd College Prep and to repurpose Wilson Elementary into Franklin Accelerated Academy for the 2026–27 school year—moves made after local feedback and a 2,500-student drop this year. The board also reconfigured boundaries for four elementary schools to better balance enrollment.  The Mesa Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Low-income Arizonans are facing rising utility bills as major providers plan 14% rate hikes while many already struggle to pay for basic needs amid federal cuts and a government shutdown. State regulators will begin repealing energy efficiency standards—changes that could scale back aid programs designed to lower bills for vulnerable households.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Open enrollment has begun and many Arizonans using ACA plans see that if enhanced tax credits expire at the end of the year, their premiums could rise sharply—some families may see their monthly costs jump from about $500 to $1,400. Lawmakers and health experts continue to debate extending the credits—prompting concerns about higher uninsured rates.  KJZZ
