COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mesa residents can now purchase online tickets for Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at Merry Main Street, which will open Friday, Nov. 28 at 5:45 p.m. and run daily until Jan. 10 for a one-hour skate session costing $11 — non-Mesa residents can buy tickets starting Nov. 10 — ensuring timed access.  Mesa Now
  • Food Bucks Now launched Monday to give each SNAP recipient $40 and ease the gap after benefits ended on Nov. 1. Long lines formed at Superstition Ranch Market in Mesa—state funding of $300,000 helped about 7,500 families until the funds ran out.  12 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Arizona Public Service's parent company Pinnacle West Capital Corp reported $18 million higher revenue in the 3rd quarter compared to last year, but its net income for the last nine months fell 2.5% due to higher interest expenses plus natural gas will play a major role in powering future demand from large industrial users.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mesa Public Schools released preliminary state report card grades on Oct. 29 that gave the district an overall B grade, the same as last year. Some schools earned A and B grades while a few dropped; board members remain optimistic about boosting student performance—teachers and leaders will plan further improvements.  The Mesa Tribune
  • Schools serving Queen Creek earned high marks in the 2024-25 state report—Queen Creek Unified had 31 of 44 schools score an A and Higley Unified had 13 of 14 schools earn an A, while Chandler Unified is appealing three B grades. School leaders praised the results as a sign of improved performance and fewer lower grades compared to recent years.  East Valley Tribune

  • A permit to ease development standards for Mint Dispensary’s expansion will be reviewed tomorrow by the Mesa Board of Adjustment, with a study session starting at 5 p.m. and a meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 20 E. Main St. & the decision will affect future changes along Southern Avenue.  Mesa Independent
