COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Child Crisis Arizona hosted its annual Lunch for Love event on Oct. 30 in Mesa—nearly 500 guests raised over $1M in one hour to support foster care, adoption, and wellness programs. The funds will help provide early education, counseling, and wraparound services for children and families in need.  Mesa Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mathew Sandoval, a teaching professor at ASU’s Barrett Honors College and author of 'Día de los Muertos: A Chicano Arts Legacy,' explained that the holiday helps people cope with grief by honoring lost loved ones and reclaiming Mexican heritage through art rooted in the civil rights movement. A related exhibit will be held at the Hispanic Research center at ASU through early December—offering the community a chance to learn about its deep cultural roots.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mesa pediatrician Dr. Ruth Tan Lim donated funds in early October to ASU’s MIX Center in downtown Mesa that provided seed funding for a community artist residency at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts—resulting in the production shop being named after her.  Mesa Independent
  • MCC is hosting STEAM Night with free, hands-on science and art activities—while a film called Forward! To The Moon is shown in the MCC Planetarium.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa Leadership Training and Development Program announced its new board of directors to train local leaders—Alison Stoltman, a Mesa Leadership graduate, will serve as board chair for 2025‑26 while Kim Williams remains treasurer and takes on the role of chair‑elect.  Mesa Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friday Night Fever Week 10 delivered high school football scores Friday night as Mesa lost 41-33 to Basha while Sunnyslope beat McClintock 28-7, Williams Field won 21-10 over Higley, Liberty beat O’Connor 49-17, Chandler won 28-22 over Pinnacle, Centennial beat Boulder Creek 49-17, Notre Dame won 37-23 over Desert Mountain, and Horizon beat Chaparral 38-16. The games, held across Phoenix, showed a mix of close matchups and one-sided wins — each team competed hard for key victories this season.  12 News
