Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 24th of October.
Good morning, Mesa.
Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) provides temporary housing to 4,000 people a year and fills all 600 adult beds daily while also offering shelter for families and seniors.
The organization connects people to work help, legal services, and health care so they can move toward stable housing.
Vendors and sponsors are being sought for the Mesa Senior Expo, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on November 14 at Mesa Market Place Swap Meet’s Building No. 4 (10550 E.
Baseline Road). Hosted by Independent Newsmedia for local seniors and families, the expo will feature health screenings, free sample giveaways, and door prize drawings (to help build direct community connections).
Construction will begin this month on a new retail project in east Mesa anchored by a Sprouts Farmers Market store and developed by Common Bond Development Group.
The Eastmarket at Eastmark project will offer nearly 45,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space— including a 23,299-square-foot Sprouts location— and will bring a new shopping hub to the community.
Mesa Public Library is hosting Halloween Boo—a series of events for preschoolers and families—at all four library branches, where past and upcoming sessions feature trick-or-treat stations, outdoor activities, and free books and safety-themed coloring books from Kids Need to Read and MesaMoves. The October 29 and October 30 events will include special guests, themed crafts, and at Dobson Ranch Library, free at-home gardening kits are offered while supplies last.
Mesa Community College — a key local institution — expanded its Construction Trades and Data Center Operations programs today at its Southern and Dobson campus to address a growing shortage of skilled workers with strong local industry support.
The college held a grand opening ribbon cutting at its new 1.5-acre laydown yard — the only one of its kind at a community college — and will soon introduce courses in masonry, HVAC, and solar.
