Good morning, Mesa. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 18th of October.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Mesa Design Review Board reviewed the design and landscaping for a new Sun Devil Auto facility on October 14th on a 5.9-acre site about 280 feet east of the northeast corner of East Southern Avenue and South Signal Butte Road. The design features east-facing bay doors and a 6-foot wall set 200 feet from homes — staff planner Charlotte Bridges noted the meeting occurred despite absences from Chair Dane Astle and Boardmember Paul Johnson — to ensure a proper buffer between the facility and the residential area.  Mesa Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. V Boykin transformed her life through education after a past as a former stripper, felon, and single mother, earning multiple degrees at WGU while balancing work and family. She now leads innovation at HubSpot—authoring books and mentoring others in her community.  The Mesa Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Youth climate leaders met with APS executives this summer after the utility walked back its long-term clean energy plans. The group urged APS to reinstate a zero carbon goal by 2050 and speed up the closure of a northern Arizona coal plant — and they said they will keep asking for more meetings to ensure youth can have a seat at the table.  12 News
