- ➤ The Downtown Mesa Association will host Haunting on Main on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—a family-friendly pre-Halloween event where kids can collect individually wrapped treats from local businesses. - ➤ Heavy rains last week caused gravestones at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery near Baseline Road and Stapley Drive to tip over and sink — workers have started leveling the ground as parts dry out. The cemetery manager said repairs will be finished by the end of next week. 12 News

- ➤ Waymo and DoorDash have partnered to offer driverless delivery of food and groceries in metro Phoenix. The service will use autonomous vehicles to deliver orders from DashMart—DoorDash’s brick and mortar store—and will expand with more local merchants in the coming months. KJZZ

- ➤ A solar-powered library device called SolarSPELL, created by ASU professors and students, was named one of TIME's Best Inventions yesterday and delivers key educational information to rural communities—helping healthcare, education, and agriculture sectors—while partnering with local agencies like the Phoenix Fire Department and HOPI Cancer Support Services. - ➤ Mesa Community College and the Arizona Marching Band Association are hosting the inaugural Thunderbird Marching Classic on Saturday, Oct. 18 at John D. Riggs Stadium on the MCC Southern and Dobson Campus in Mesa from 3:30 to 10 p.m.—the event will feature performances by 21 high school marching bands and a National Anthem by MCC’s Brass Quintet. Proceeds will benefit MCC’s Summer Music Camp and an awards ceremony will honor outstanding student musicians. Mesa Independent

- ➤ Heavy rains that marked the fourth wettest October on record have raised flood insurance concerns across the Valley, as Maricopa County Flood Control District manager Lisa Blyler explained that flooding can occur anywhere it rains. Residents should act early because flood policies take 30 days to become effective — regular homeowner policies do not cover flood damage. KJZZ
- ➤ Yesterday, the Arizona Department of Economic Security acknowledged that a glitch in its new unemployment system is preventing some claimants from receiving benefits and said it is working to fix the issue. Several claimants reported long delays with missed payments and longer call wait times (due to staff cuts), highlighting challenges with the new system. KJZZ
