COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mesa Public Library will host Donate Day on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Red Mountain Library (635 N. Power Road) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will help unload donated books, magazines, movies, and music to support library programs and services.  Mesa Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Taroko Sports in Mesa opened in July and now operates a 24/7 center with digital batting cages, arcade games, and basketball. The venue at 1738 W. Rio Salado Parkway offers a $14.99 unlimited play package from 10 p.m.—10 a.m.—and may expand to new locations statewide in the future.  Mesa Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal tax credits for electric school buses ended on Oct. 1 when a new law took effect, and that may delay Valley districts' plans to update their fleets. Districts with signed contracts can still get the credits, but new bus orders after Sept. 30 lose a benefit of about $40,000 per bus — forcing planners to act quickly.  KJZZ
  • ASU Prep Polytechnic STEM Academy is inviting families to tour its campus for Grades K-6 as enrollment remains open for academic programs in the 2025–26 school year—letting parents explore a new learning environment before making a switch.  Mesa Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at ASU’s Swette Center are studying the true cost of milk by examining its health—environment and labor factors to guide future farm bill decisions and provide transparency for policymakers. The study compares dairy milk with options like oat and almond milk and has sparked strong community interest.  KJZZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mesa assistant softball coach Wayne Hill, 68, collapsed on Sept. 3rd at Franklin Accelerated Academy-Brimhall after suffering cardiac arrest and on Tuesday he reunited with his rescuers—his daughter Head coach Tina Royer and off-duty Mesa Fire engineer Justin Crewse—to thank them and urge residents to learn CPR.  12 News
