EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kyrene School District removed Kyrene del Norte and Kyrene de la Mirada from the proposed closure list after parents provided feedback, keeping more students together. The revised plan also retains an extra dual language school and awaits a board vote in December — a step to ensure a more equitable setup.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City of Mesa's Transportation Department launched the MesaMoves Look Twice Save a Life Challenge to promote safer driving—biking and walking by offering prizes and safety tips after 1,359 injuries and deaths were recorded between 2017 and 2022, with the initiative honoring a young Mesa resident who died in June and running through Dec 6.  Mesa Now
  • Mesa City Council voted to raise the contract for temporary stagehand workers from $975,000 to $1.1 million for Arts Center events. The new deal with UTP Productions Inc. reflects rising contractor rates and higher event needs —changes that will help cover jobs like stage setup— as approved by the council.  Mesa Independent
