CULTURE NEWS

  • Barry Enderwick, known for his Sandwiches of History series, will present his one-man show at Tempe Center for the Arts this weekend—offering live demonstrations of old sandwich recipes and his signature plus-ups to improve each dish.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Paradise Valley Unified School District placed its new superintendent Todd Cummings on administrative leave after the board reviewed complaints and sought legal counsel. He was previously on leave in Indiana over grade manipulation allegations—his status remains under review.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Commerce Authority said small businesses risk losing access to federal loans if Congress does not pass a funding deal by midnight, endangering 611097 firms—local stores included. Local leaders warn that a shutdown will disrupt federal services and lead to mass furloughs.  12 News
  • At its recent meeting, Mesa City Council approved rezoning of 3.3-acre and 3.7-acre parcels for a proposed 137-unit residential development at 4062 E. Main. The project is located 1,600 feet west of East Main and North Greenfield Road—clearing the way for an upcoming housing development.  Mesa Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • HonorHealth announced on Oct. 1 that Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa will be renamed HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center as part of its plan to expand quality care in the East Valley—The hospital at 1301 S. Crismon Road is a 178-bed facility opened in 2007 that offers emergency, trauma, stroke, and cardiac services to local families.  Mesa Independent
