- ➤ Resurrection Street Ministry—who has run its Mesa food bank since 2002—received a 30-day notice and must leave its space near Stapley Drive and Main Street by October 1. The volunteer team is asking the community for help as it works to sell store items and move food supplies to a new location. ABC15 Arizona
- ➤ Cannon Beach is hosting a free grand opening block party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at 4537 S Power Road in Mesa—featuring music, local food vendors, a petting zoo, a costume contest and a foam truck for a family-friendly celebration. Mesa Independent
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Xnrgy Climate Systems Inc. expanded its Mesa operations by acquiring 330,000 square feet at the Centris Industrial complex on Pecos Road and 80th Street—where it will produce next-generation air-cooled chillers. The Montreal-based company said its Mesa facilities will eventually span over 1.3 million square feet and could create roughly 500 jobs. ABC15 Arizona
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arizona teachers can apply for the Wishes for Teachers program — it offers a record $1.5 million in grants to help up to 540 educators buy supplies like robotics kits and books. Applications close Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. local time. 12 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A roadway resurfacing project will begin Sept. 29 on Extension Road in Mesa; the south section from Baseline Road to Eighth Avenue will run through Nov. 13 while the north section from Eighth Avenue to University Drive will start on Oct. 15 and run through Nov. 27. The project—delayed from 2022 for utility upgrades—will add enhanced bicycle lanes from Baseline Road to Main Street and is expected to finish by year’s end. Mesa Independent
- ➤ Falcon Field Airport in Mesa has been awarded federal grants through the FAA’s AIG program to design upgrades that enhance safety, efficiency, and connectivity. Design work for a new Taxiway I and Runway 22L holding apron, West Airport Service Road reconstruction and taxiway connector upgrades—supported by a local ADOT match—will begin in November and finish by spring 2026. - ➤ Today, the Arizona Department of Public Safety replaces its Silver Alert system with the new SAFE Alert program, which sends real-time notifications when vulnerable residents go missing (including seniors and those with cognitive or developmental disabilities). Law enforcement must issue these alerts promptly when investigations confirm suspicious circumstances and danger. 12 News

- ➤ Sprout Organics has expanded its voluntary recall of Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches sold at Walgreens and local retailers in 28 states — including Arizona — after tests found potentially elevated lead levels; consumers are advised to return the pouches for a full refund. 12 News

- ➤ The Arizona High School Pickleball Championships—set for Dec. 6 and 7 in Mesa—will see over 12 schools competing in five events as boys and girls teams vie for a championship title.
