ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A multibillion-dollar project called Legacy Park is proposed for east Mesa—this development will create 20,000 jobs and generate $56 billion over 20 years. The developer will present the proposal to the City Council in the first quarter of 2026 and plans to break ground in 2027. KJZZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kyrene School District launched Speak Up Kyrene — an anonymous system that lets students and community members report safety and mental health concerns around the clock — and has already recorded reports of bullying, vandalism, and harassment. The system also connects users with licensed counselors who provide help in English, Spanish, and more than 600 additional languages. KJZZ
- ➤ The Mesa City Council and Mesa Public Schools Governing Board met with Mesa Police on Wednesday at the Mesa Arts Center to discuss student safety and revise the school cellphone policy. Arizona House Bill 2484 requires schools to limit social media use while allowing emergency access—rules that will soon be applied district-wide. Mesa Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Corporation Commission is considering a separate utility rate for data centers and will review proposals from APS + Tucson Electric Power before deciding on the new charge. Commission Chair Kevin Thompson said the rates could be implemented in about 18 months if approved as rising data center demand drives these proposals. KJZZ
- ➤ State transportation officials announced that multiple freeway closures are in effect along Valley freeways from Friday night until Monday morning as crews work on improvement projects. Mesa drivers should plan for restrictions on eastbound I-10, westbound US 60, and Loop 202—using designated detours and changes to lane configurations. Mesa Independent

- ➤ On Friday, the Arizona Department of Health Services issued a standing order to let Arizonans 6 months and older get the updated COVID-19 vaccine—hurdles remain as pharmacies cannot vaccinate children under 6 and federal guidelines leave insurers uncertain. KJZZ
