- ➤ Mesa won the Outstanding Special Event Award from the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association on September 10 for its Merry Main Street festival, which attracted over 190,000 visitors last winter. The festival will return on Nov. 28 with a tree lighting — celebrations continue through Jan. 10. Mesa Now

- ➤ Mexican consul Jorge Mendoza Yescas said it is safe to attend Mexican Independence celebrations in the Valley as there are no plans for mass immigration raids. In Mesa, a multicultural fair will be held Saturday 13 at Pioneer Park starting at 2 p.m.—the Grito will begin at 6 p.m. 12 News

- ➤ Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said the Supreme Court ruling on roving ICE patrols—issued on September 10th—threatened to revive racial profiling seen under SB 1070 and urged federal officers to follow the 9th Circuit decision that requires stops based on individualized suspicion. Her statement warned that ignoring this ruling could erode constitutional protections in the region. KJZZ
- ➤ Arizona Superintendent Tom Horne filed a motion at the state Supreme Court calling for Justice Bill Montgomery to step aside from a case on dual language in schools — citing their past conflict — as he pushes to end dual language instruction. The justices have not yet decided if Montgomery will recuse himself. 12 News
- ➤ The Mesa City Council voted 7-0 on Sept. 8 to schedule a public hearing for a 137-unit residential development on Sept. 22 at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers; officials will review an ordinance to rezone designated acres for multiple residential uses—further details will guide next steps. - ➤ St. Vincent de Paul will convert a thrift store on the Tempe border into a free specialty care medical office that expands its Phoenix clinic services—covering 10,289 square feet with 26 parking spaces at 2352 W.
