CRIME NEWS
- ➤ In January 2024, cyberthieves hacked EVIT and stole personal files from over 208K students and staff, and two class-action lawsuits have been filed alleging the institute delayed notifying victims and failed to secure data—EVIT has since upgraded its cybersecurity measures. The Mesa Tribune
- ➤ Cyberthieves stole personal data from over 200,000 EVIT students and staff in January 2024 and two class-action lawsuits were filed in Maricopa County Superior Court that claim EVIT did not secure its systems and warned victims too late—EVIT has since added a new backup system, upgraded firewalls, and multi-factor authentication while plaintiffs still seek more redress. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Judicial Branch and community partners held the Project Restore: My Record, My Rights event to let Arizonans clear juvenile records by reviewing cases on-site (as with 18-year-old Brianna Mccomas, who now aims to join the Marine Corps). The event also educates tens of thousands in Maricopa County that they must apply to have their records destroyed so they can move on with their lives. 12 News
