ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A single-vehicle collision Saturday morning near Pueblo Avenue and Val Vista Drive in Mesa killed one person and left another with life-threatening injuries—bricks from the crash damaged nearby homes and northbound Val Vista was shut down, police said.  Mesa Independent

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Owen Foster pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a May 2021 incident at a Mesa home where he fatally shot his pregnant girlfriend with twins while children were inside—he was sentenced to 19 years in prison.  Mesa Independent
  • On August 27 at 8 p.m., Mesa Police said 16-year-old David Ball went missing near Brown and Gilbert roads while wearing a black sweatshirt, black jogger pants, Nike shoes, and a black cross-body bag—if anyone sees him, they should call Mesa Police at 480-644-2211.  Mesa Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Therapist Thomas Brennan at Denova Collaborative Health in Mesa said grief does not follow a set order and affects each person differently — he added that support groups and therapy can help those feeling isolated by their loss.  Mesa Independent
  • On Aug 29, Mesa hosted a teen mental health and violence prevention summit where panelists including Brendan Salisbury warned that adults often miss signs of struggle and urged direct conversations to help youth. The half-day event (Stronger Together: Safe Minds, Safe Communities) was hosted by Maricopa County Supervisor Mark Stewart and brought together local experts to discuss warning signs and safety measures.  Mesa Independent
