  • Starting Sept. 2, Mesa Business Builder at The Studios (59 E. First St.) will have open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday so local entrepreneurs can drop in for workspaces without a reservation.  Mesa Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Mesa Police will enforce DUI laws over Labor Day weekend from August 29 until September 1 under the GOHS DUI Task Force—patrolling from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and using saturation patrols on Monday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Mesa Now

  • Red Mountain High School senior Milton Renshaw made history as the first student body president with special needs with strong support from teachers, friends, and family. He now leads school activities and sets a new path for student representation.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arizona lawmakers are debating new utility measures that would limit companies' liability for wildfire damages while requiring strict mitigation plans—if companies accept lower liability, they must also meet tougher safety standards. State Sen. J.D. Mesnard said the legislation aims to balance consumer protection with preventing large rate hikes—ensuring that customers are not burdened with higher costs.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • ASU researchers are using ANDI—a human-shaped manikin that simulates sweating and shivering—to study how heat and shade affect the body in Mesa’s high summer temperatures. The planned studies this summer aim to guide safer work practices and choices in clothing for those exposed to extreme heat.  KJZZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Monday that her office filed a lawsuit against Edward Albarracin, Gretchen Zamjahn, and more than 50 related entities—accused of tricking hundreds of homeowners into transferring the deeds of their homes into shell companies.  12 News

  • The World Fitness Project Tour will take place in Mesa from Aug. 29 to 31 at the Arizona Athletic Grounds on S. Ellsworth Road, bringing together 40 top professional fitness athletes for a three-day competition.
