  • Authorities are looking for David Ball, 16, who was last seen at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 22 near the intersection of Gilbert and Brown roads in Mesa wearing a black hoodie, black pants and white and gray shoes—he has brown hair, green eyes and is 5-foot-8 at 155 pounds.  Mesa Independent

  • Local author Christina Estes published her second mystery book The Story That Wouldn't Die on August 19; the novel follows reporter Jolene Garcia as she investigates a businessman's death that may not be an accident — a tale inspired by Estes's own work in Phoenix.  12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Higley Unified students received override election flyers from school staff during curriculum night at Higley High School, which reportedly encouraged a campaign in violation of state law—officials said the flyers were given in a limited context and are now under review. The district stated the incident did not reflect a widespread practice and will be examined to ensure adherence to legal guidelines.  East Valley Tribune
