CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old man and a 13-year-old teen were arrested in Mesa after a 10 karat nugget ring sale on OfferUp turned violent when the teen allegedly robbed the man of $280 and both exchanged gunfire that injured the teen’s leg and damaged nearby apartments, police said—law enforcement stated the man faces charges for aggravated assault while the teen is charged with armed robbery and unlawful discharge of a firearm.  The Arizona Republic
  • The Mesa Police Department is seeking help finding 16-year-old Ivan Valenzuela who was last seen at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 near Broadway and Sossaman — he wore a blue hoodie, black pants, white tennis shoes and carried a tan backpack — and asks anyone with information to call Mesa police at 4806442211.  Mesa Independent

  • The tribute show One Gunn One Love – The Bob Marley Experience will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at the Mesa Arts Center on 1 E. Main St as Grammy winner Marvin Gunn leads a six-piece band in celebrating Bob Marley's legacy.  Mesa Independent
  • Toad The Wet Sprocket will headline their Good Intentions U.S. tour when they perform at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Tom and Janet Ikeda Theater—located inside the Mesa Arts Center—and tickets start at $52 with KT Tunstall and Vertical Horizon supporting.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mesa City Council approved a $457K cooperative contract for surveillance cameras using Carashoft Technology group to install Gridless Power cameras in city parks on Aug. 18 — the system was chosen by Mesa PD after testing two options.  Mesa Independent
  • Arizona cities united under the Coalition for Protecting Arizona’s Lifeline when officials, including Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman, met on August 20 in Scottsdale to defend water rights in the Colorado River negotiations—citing growing demands and a shrinking supply that may force water cuts. The coalition will expand its membership to include additional water users as the talks continue.  KJZZ
