  • Emma Huckleberry, 21, died in a head-on collision on SR-202 near Center Parkway shortly after midnight — DPS said intoxication may have been a factor when a wrong-direction driver hit her Kia and a SUV driver was injured.  12 News

  • The Mesa Police Department is asking for help to find 17-year-old Cimitria Reed who was last seen at 11:10 p.m. Aug. 13 near Dobson — Guadalupe in Mesa. Reed wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweats, Crocs, a black backpack, and a pink purse, and anyone with information is asked to call Mesa Police at 480-644-2211.  Mesa Independent
  • The Reynolds-Sheets family in Mesa is searching for their 19-year-old daughter Emma Sheets, who has been missing for three weeks after taking an Uber from her grandmother’s house following an online game chat + a police detective in Glendale is investigating her disappearance while noting her daily medication need and developmental challenges.  12 News
  • 16-year-old Veronica Solano is missing in Mesa after she was last seen at 10 p.m. Aug. 12 near Gilbert and Baseline wearing a white T-shirt and navy blue plaid pants with pink stripes—she has a rose tattoo on her right arm and Mesa police ask anyone with information to call 480-644-2211.  Mesa Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists at the University of Arizona are using advanced models to track ozone pollution origins in metro Phoenix—findings show the pollutant comes from local emissions and sources as far away as California and Asia. The work follows an EPA rule change earlier this summer that removed plans to reclassify the area's air quality.  KJZZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A 137-unit attached townhomes development is planned 1,600 feet west of the northwest corner of East Main Street and North Greenfield Road. The Mesa Design Review Board met on Aug. 12 at 4062 E. Main St to review the design and landscaping on 7 acres and discuss planned amenities — pickleball courts, a play field, two playgrounds and ramadas.  Mesa Independent
