- ➤ A motorcyclist died after crashing at the Loop 202 off-ramp at Desert Foothills Parkway—DPS confirmed—and the ramp is expected to remain closed for some time. 12 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 22-year-old father was arrested for first-degree murder after his four-week-old daughter died in Mesa near Gilbert and University roads when police were called on July 11 and she was declared dead on July 26 — he admitted striking her — as investigators found injuries in various stages of healing. - ➤ Mesa Police are looking for Kamryn Hall (14) who went missing on July 31 near Horne and Brown Road. The child is white with brown hair and brown eyes, and anyone with information should call Mesa Police at 480-644-2211. Mesa Independent

- ➤ Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo asked Attorney General Kris Mayes to investigate County Recorder Justin Heap after text messages showed Heap may have pressured fellow supervisors to support his plan for splitting election duties. Gallardo said Heap violated the Open Meeting Law—Mayes is now reviewing his request. KJZZ
- ➤ Southwest Key Programs, a nonprofit that runs migrant shelters, will lay off up to 1,467 employees after its federal grant funding ended— the group said it will work with federal partners to transition care at its centers in Arizona, California and Texas. 12 News
