  • Although City Public Pools closed once school resumed, Mesa Aquatics is offering many pool events this late summer and fall. These include a Dive-In Movie at Brimhall Aquatic Complex (5035 E. Southern Ave.) on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., weekend swimming at Skyline Aquatic Center and Rhodes Aquatic Complex through Aug. 31, plus adaptive swim, lap swim, water aerobics, river walking, Flow League and a Pumpkin Splash on Oct. 25 at Stapley Aquatic Complex (5250 E.   • AT&T is hosting a hiring event Thursday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m.—3 p.m. at its Mesa call center at 1355 W. University Drive to fill hundreds of full-time hybrid customer service roles with competitive wages and benefits. Candidates can apply online or drop in during the event.  Mesa Independent
  • Arizona Builders Alliance is hosting the 9th annual GC Expo at the Mesa Convention Center on Aug. 14 — the event is a collaboration with the Associated Minority Contractors and American Subcontractors Association to help general contractors connect with trade partners. More than 50 contracting firms will attend to build new business relationships during Arizona's growing construction boom.  Mesa Independent

CRIME NEWS

  • Mesa police finished a criminal investigation into Mesa Park Rangers after reviewing about 160 misconduct cases, including an incident at Pioneer Park where a city prosecutor declined an assault charge—while the unit now operates with modified duties during an independent review.  ABC15 Arizona

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents expressed anger at a board meeting as Kyrene education leaders were criticized for allowing roof construction to expose students to potentially harmful air at Kyrene De La Sierra Elementary School, which announced remote learning on Sunday. Officials said students will return on October 14 once air quality tests are completed.  12 News

  • Gov. Hobbs signed an executive order yesterday to let Arizona join a nonprofit discount card program that will lower prescription costs — Arizona residents will be eligible in early 2026.  KJZZ
