ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Public safety officials responded Tuesday morning to a collision involving three vehicles in Mesa near Greenfield and McLellan roads (south of Falcon Field Airport) that caused significant damage, led firefighters to treat three patients—one of whom needed extrication—and resulted in temporary traffic restrictions as police investigated the scene.  12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Gilbert Police Officer Levi Leyba—now a Mesa resident—left the police earlier this year to focus on literacy and inclusion; he writes and illustrates bilingual children’s books that help children learning to read and those with special needs.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa Gateway Airport broke record passenger numbers last year after adding new terminals and food options. The airport will spend over $130 million to renovate runways and taxiways—one runway that is 10,000 feet long will open late next year.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Banner Poison and Drug Information Center in Maricopa County said calls about children ingesting nicotine pouches have doubled from last year, with most incidents involving kids under five. The center warned that even a small amount of nicotine can lead to severe symptoms (vomiting, rapid heartbeat, or seizures).  KJZZ
  • An HonorHealth emergency room doctor said Arizona’s flu season lasts longer because people gather indoors to escape extreme heat—Maricopa County reported 30 flu cases and over 600 COVID-19 cases this week. He advised getting the flu shot when available and staying well hydrated and rested.  KJZZ
