- ➤ The Maricopa Association of Governments is training crossing guards with local agency help to review traffic laws, heat safety and proper procedures as schools prepare to start this fall — workshops include guidance from fire and police staff. Local experts will provide clear instructions to help crossing guards perform their duties safely. KJZZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lake Powell is now about 30% full and if its water levels drop too low the dam’s turbines may soon fail to generate hydropower, which could lead to power and water shortages for Arizona and other states. Water managers aim to use emergency water transfers + federal negotiations among seven states to develop long-term solutions to this ongoing challenge. KJZZ

- ➤ ADOT is seeking public input as it prepares an engineering study for the North-South Corridor— a planned freeway to ease I-10 traffic by connecting Apache Junction and Eloy. The agency will hold meetings on Aug. 7 at Florence High School's gym and Aug. 12 at Santa Cruz Valley Union High School's auditorium while accepting online comments until Sept. 8. 12 News
- ➤ The new state budget includes nearly $126 million in funding that moved 900 children off the child care assistance waitlist—families have been notified by the Department of Economic Security and must contact DES by July 25 to confirm eligibility. Gov. Hobbs said the funding aims to ease child care costs for struggling families. KJZZ
