  • Three men from Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Mesa are facing charges in a $1 billion health care fraud scheme—allegedly targeting elderly Medicare patients, including those in hospice, through four Arizona-based companies as part of a nationwide indictment that includes over 300 others.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa city council voted unanimously (5-0) to hold a special recall election costing $104,577 on November 4 for District 2 voters to decide whether to remove Councilwoman Julie Spilsbury from office. The recall effort, started by resident JoAnne Robbins with enough petition signatures, has sparked heated debate over partisan influence (with some petition gatherers being nonresidents).  The Mesa Tribune
