- ➤ Waymo announced Tuesday that its autonomous vehicles in Phoenix now let teenagers aged 14 to 17 ride independently if linked to a parent's account. The service covers 315 square miles and allows up to four passengers per ride if every teen is at least 14 & parents receive ride receipts with real-time trip updates. 12 News

- ➤ Artist Lily Reeves will speak about her inspiration and new works for the Fire to Form exhibition in July at Mesa Arts Center + a Q&A and gallery walk-through will follow the 1-2 p.m. talk on Sunday, July 20 at the Dobson Lecture Hall on 1 E. - ➤ The City of Mesa will hold a Special Recall Election on November 4 to let Council District Two voters decide whether to recall Councilmember Julie Spilsbury for the remainder of her term ending in January. Maricopa County Elections will manage the ballot-by-mail process with candidate filing (Aug. 6-Sept. 5) and ballot mailing (Oct. 8-Oct. 28). Mesa Now
- ➤ The Mesa City Council voted 5-0 on July 8 to approve a contract for breathing equipment for the fire and medical department - the council expects the new equipment to improve emergency response in Mesa. Mesa Independent
- ➤ Today, Mesa won the 2025 Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation in the 300,000-599,999 population category as residents pledged to save over 22 million gallons of water in the next year. Mesa’s win may lead to lower energy use and fewer emissions while showing the city’s strong commitment to sustainability. Mesa Now

- ➤ Social Spin Foundation has launched overdose prevention workshops using a $400,000 county opioid settlement grant to teach residents how to spot overdose signs and safely use Narcan during the summer's extreme heat, which makes drug effects riskier. Program director Samantha Calvin said the workshop shows that symptoms of heat stroke and overdose can overlap—making quick help important. KJZZ
