COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is now open for Mesa Parks and Recreation fall programs from August through October for residents, who may sign up online & by phone or in person at the office on Baseline Road. Non-residents can begin registering on July 14 at 8 a.m.  Mesa Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Monday morning, Mesa fire officials responded to a house fire near Sossaman and Broadway roads and found one person inside who died as heavy flames and a collapsing roof prevented a full search—an investigation into the cause is underway.  ABC15 Arizona

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Homeless Youth Connection partners with 15 school and charter districts including Mesa Public Schools to help over 700 homeless high school students get tutoring, housing help, and case management. The nonprofit also offers life skills training and gift cards so that students can stay in school and work toward a bright future — one built on community support.  East Valley Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa council approved a set of proposed regulations for data centers on the southeast side with a 6—0 vote last week to set guidelines for siting, parking, and building standards—final action on the measure will be taken today to balance economic growth with community impact.  The Mesa Tribune
  • Mesa and Queen Creek lawmakers are debating tax options for electric vehicles as a growing shift away from gasoline raises concerns about road funding. One proposal would bar a mileage-based fee while another seeks to charge alternative fuel vehicles a fee comparable to the current gas tax — both are part of ongoing legislative discussions.  Mesa Independent
  • Traffic lights in metro Phoenix are managed with sensors and fixed time settings that track vehicles, road congestion, and pedestrian flows, and Mesa's ITS engineer said cities share data to adjust signals during busy events. This cooperation helps drivers move smoothly across city borders—reducing delays.  KJZZ
