Good morning, Mesa.

Soroptimist International of the East Valley recently selected its 2026-27 board of directors+ President Cheri Mingst-Smith, Secretary Marcia Chapman, Treasurer Ruth Abbott, and Director Teresa McCollom will lead efforts to empower women and girls through education and community impact.

On June 30, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled that funds in Fund 596 must be used for career and technical education programs, denying EVIT control of district finances.

EVIT’s offer to pay up to $4 million for Mesa bus service (deadline was June 29) remains unresolved.

Maricopa County data shows 430 Valley residents died from extreme heat in 2025 and 11 have died so far this year (with 164 investigations ongoing); Dr. Amelia Gallitano explained that dehydration stops sweating, stressing the heart and vital organs.
