CRIME NEWS

  • Mesa authorities investigated a shooting near 32nd Street and Baseline Road on June 27 where no officers were injured — officials have not confirmed if anyone else was affected.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 100 people will take an oath of allegiance at 5 p.m. on July 4 at Mesa Convention Center, 263 N. Center St. — This naturalization ceremony is part of the annual Celebration of Freedom that features live music, fireworks and BMX stunt shows while local leaders lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  The Mesa Tribune
  • Arizona lawmakers passed a bipartisan budget plan in the House by a 40 to 19 vote on Thursday night that will fund government services when the new fiscal year starts on July 1 if Gov. Hobbs signs it—ending weeks of shutdown fears. The Senate is set to pass the plan on Friday as lawmakers balance spending cuts with increased oversight amid disagreements over school voucher funding.  KJZZ
