- ➤ Moses Lake Industries opened its new 50,000 square foot manufacturing and research center in Mesa using nearly $100 million in investment to boost semiconductor innovation and create high-value jobs—city leaders say the facility will strengthen local collaboration with customer R&D teams and support future expansion. - ➤ Teacher *Sandi Brown* at *Quail Run Elementary* was honored when parent Cara Rosenstein and her two sons surprised her during class to thank her for caring support such as hosting coffee chats and even preparing a meal when a student was hurt. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Katie Hobbs broke her veto record by rejecting two partisan budget proposals on Wednesday, raising her veto count to 168 in 2025—surpassing her prior record of 143 vetoes from her first year. The vetoes targeted budgets approved on party lines that would have cut public safety, health care, and veteran services. KJZZ
- ➤ The City of Mesa released its 2024 Water Quality Consumer Confidence Report—showing that Mesa’s drinking water met over 100 state and federal standards and detailing water quality, sources and treatment. Director Chris Hassert said the report reflects testing in 2024—hard copies are available by phone if requested. Mesa Now
- ➤ The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board voted 6-0 to recommend amending the city code to include specific zoning rules for data centers— the recommendation now moves to Mesa City Council for further review. Mesa Independent
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Arizona will receive $108 million from a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma to aid local efforts against the opioid crisis—more than five Arizonans die daily from overdoses. The funds will support harm reduction and improved treatment access in hard-hit communities. KJZZ
