CULTURE NEWS

  • At Falcon Field today, a Harrier AV-8B touched down amid cheers and photos as the museum added the fighter jet to its display. Retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Marty Post said the jet, which saw combat, took a year to secure +it boosts local tourism+ for military history exhibits.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mesa City Council will vote on July 1 on changes to the marijuana codes that would let dispensaries use more floor space and lift the delivery ban—an update aimed at modernizing local regulations.  Mesa Independent
  • The Senate unveiled its $17.6 billion budget plan for the fiscal year starting in less than two weeks—about $300 million more than the House plan—and its Appropriations Committee will review the bills Tuesday before a Senate vote tomorrow. Senate and House leaders remain hopeful that this bipartisan process will soon yield a plan that meets key priorities even though the governor has said she will not sign it.  KJZZ
  • Arizona lawmakers are considering a budget provision that would provide exonerated inmates — including those like Drayton Witt — with financial compensation, counseling, and job training. Rep. Khyl Powell said the proposal would pay 200% of the median income for each year wrongfully spent in prison and join similar programs in over three dozen states.  KJZZ
