- ➤ Chef Mat Meyer, a Mesa resident who overcame homelessness to become a celebrated private chef, donated $22,000 to House of Refuge to sponsor the home where he once lived—helping fund transitional housing for families. - ➤ A Mesa man who fell into a storm drain near Loop 202 and Country Club Drive was rescued by Mesa Fire Department on Wednesday morning—he remains unhurt but will be taken to the hospital as a precaution. 12 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the state presented new evidence and witnesses—linking events in Arizona and Idaho—in Lori Vallow Daybell’s murder conspiracy trial in Gilbert. The state rested its case after calling FBI Special Agent Nicholas Ballance on Wednesday—while Vallow Daybell filed a motion to recuse Judge Green after earlier recusal requests were denied. 12 News

- ➤ 2025 Miss Arizona and Miss Arizona’s Teen competitions will be held from June 26 to 28 at the Mesa Arts Center with events at the Ikeda Theater at 1 E. Main St. in Mesa. A total of 58 young women will compete for the titles, over $25,000 in college scholarships and a chance to join the historic Miss America competition—events are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on June 26 and 27 and 7 p.m. on June 28. - ➤ The Mesa Fire and Medical department is collaborating with a national wildfire safety program to reduce the risk of property damage in local communities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved $30 million on June 11, 2025, for detention officers' pay and retention bonuses. The program lets each officer earn up to $15,000 over three fiscal years—county officials expect it to boost recruitment. KJZZ
- ➤ Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes warned locals that her office has seen more text and email scams from fake government agencies like Arizona Ministry of Communications, which is not real. Residents are urged to ignore and delete these messages and to call official agencies to confirm any contact (real offices never ask for money or gift cards). 12 News
