Mesa Public Schools will pilot a new social media content creation course this fall to teach real-world skills for marketing, journalism and activism.

The course, offered at Red Mountain and Mountain View high schools — including local business visits — will help students learn essential digital tools and online safety.

Executive Assistant Chief Dan Butler has been appointed as Mesa police chief and will take over on July 1—he is a 25-year veteran who previously managed daily operations and capital projects while his predecessor, Chief Ken Cost, retired after more than 30 years of service.
