ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 54-year-old man died when he fell off his tube into the Salt River last weekend—sheriff’s officials advised tubers to wear flotation devices and avoid alcohol while on the river.  KJZZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Apex Power Conversion opened its U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facility in Mesa after celebrating its launch at the Cleanpower 2025 Expo in Phoenix; the 206,000-square-foot facility (over $60 million investment) will employ up to 300 workers today with plans to expand to 700 by 2029 and start manufacturing inverter systems in the first quarter of next year.  Mesa Independent

CRIME NEWS

  • Randy and Chad Miller pleaded guilty on May 28 to securities fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with a scheme that defrauded municipal bond investors to help build the Mesa sports complex known as Arizona Athletic Grounds— they face up to seven years in prison and will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan at a later date.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Commercial egg farms have been hit by bird flu for the third year in a row, and state officials recently used the label 'animal disease emergency'—a first for outbreaks in Maricopa County—according to a supply chain expert from the University of Arizona. He warned that if imports replace eggs from affected birds, consumers may face higher prices in the future.  KJZZ
