CRIME NEWS

  • Mesa police arrested around 20 drivers each night for DUI near the Salt River during Memorial Day weekend enforcement — officers used a parking lot under Loop 202 for processing — and they urged drivers to choose safe rides to get home.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tomorrow the public can share comments on proposed rules for assisted-living memory care services as the Governor's Regulatory Review Council reviews a package from the Department of Health Services—these rules include dementia-specific training and facility improvements. The final vote on June 3 will decide if the new regulations take effect on July 1.  KJZZ
  • City Manager Chris Brady retired at the end of this week after 19 years of service in Mesa — he oversaw major projects including Sloan Park and the Northeast Public Safety Facility. He will join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a mission leader in Mexico starting July 1 — and his recommended successor, Scott Butler, was unanimously confirmed by council.  The Mesa Tribune
  • Salt River Wild Horse Management Group warned that the state’s plan—a measure to remove three horses for every new foal—threatens the herd if a new management contract is awarded; the Arizona Department of Agriculture cancelled its proposal request following unauthorized talks. The group said its contract, which ends in July, may trigger legal action if the state chooses a different operator.  KJZZ
