CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Antolino Ballejos Jr., 25, surrendered near midnight on May 3 at Silver Creek Apartments—he is now booked on a second-degree murder charge for the shooting death of Tyler Davis, who died after being shot during a 7 p.m. call on April 9. Mesa Independent
- ➤ Three Mesa park rangers have been accused of misconduct including aggressive treatment of transients and mishandling a stolen gun—one ranger was arrested on April 22 which triggered an internal probe. Mesa has placed several rangers on leave and turned unit command over to Mesa Police while an external investigation continues. The Mesa Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dysart Unified School District announced it will cut bus routes for several hundred students next school year to save about $500,000 annually due to a $60 million shortfall. The board also approved a $127 million bond measure for the November ballot — a move that does not include a tax increase — as part of its effort to address the funding gap. 12 News

- ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed a proposal from Mesa Sen. David Farnsworth that would have cut state funds from universities and community colleges offering DEI courses — she said the change could weaken workforce stability and harm the economy.
