  • On April 18, Mesa Padel Club held its grand opening at 219 W. Main St. in Mesa with a ribbon cutting, clinics, vendors, a DJ, matcha cart, giveaways and a tournament; founder Jeroen Meefout said the venue is a space (where people can move, connect and belong) for everyone.  Mesa Independent

  • On April 29, 2026, 5:00 a.m. MT, Mesa Gateway Airport surveyed 1,800 Facebook followers to rank their top 10 desired routes, with San Diego and Orlando leading. Allegiant Air, which manages nearly 50 routes + three new ones added in February, will use the results to guide future service expansions.  The Arizona Republic
  • Small businesses and those owned by socially and economically disadvantaged groups will learn how to bid on state transportation contracts receiving federal funding at the DBE and Small Business Transportation EXPO on Tuesday, May 12, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Mesa Convention Center (Building C).  Mesa Independent

  • Over 100 Asian-based businesses benefit from new signs and banners along Dobson Road as part of Mesa’s campaign to boost tourism and celebrate diversity. Tan Hua Inn will host a tea party Saturday, May 2 (3 p.m.) for local friends and visitors.  ABC15 Arizona

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new National Education Association report shows Arizona ranks 49th in per-student spending and 39th in starting teacher salaries—concerns that low wages and high living costs are straining educators remain as officials consider boosting funding.  KJZZ
  • Mesa Community College broke ground today at its Southern Avenue and Dobson Road campus for two new facilities + a 30,000 sqft welding center and a 15,000 sqft building for veterinary technology and sustainable horticulture that will open in 2028 to boost workforce training.  East Valley Tribune
  • Superintendent Tom Horne asked lawmakers for an extra ($40M) to hire over 200 counselors and 240 police officers to improve school safety after school districts requested the funding, which would raise the School Safety Program's budget to nearly $190M.  KJZZ

  • Maricopa County confirmed 10 measles cases this year (officials believe more undetected cases exist) and health officials urge residents to get vaccinated to protect infants and unvaccinated individuals as the virus continues spreading.  KJZZ
