  • Dozer's Grill—a pool hall with a bar—requested a new series 6 bar license and the Mesa City Council voted unanimously on April 21, recommending its approval as part of a consent agenda.  Mesa Independent
  • Attorney General Kris Mayes is appealing a federal judge’s ruling that said the state lacked standing to sue over 2023 family rebate funds, which provided $250 per child. State lawyers claim the IRS wrongly collected over $20 million and that lost sales tax revenue resulted as families could not spend the rebate money—efforts to reverse the decision continue—while affected households may have to report the funds on their tax returns.  KJZZ
  • Arizona Gov. Hobbs signed a bill last week to fund a program for residents with developmental disabilities, and GOP lawmakers challenged her office’s fiscal management. Longtime observer Bob Robb said the dispute reveals Arizona is in a 'sorry state' of politics (his comments appeared on The Show) (as noted in his Substack).  KJZZ
  • City officials in Mesa propose raising the one-time impact fee for two- to four-unit multifamily housing from $62 to $109 as part of a proposed budget to begin July 1+ council will review the tentative plan on May 19. The city is also planning cost-saving measures+ revenue enhancements to address rising solid waste and water treatment costs.  The Mesa Tribune
