  • Residents are invited to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Post, 26 N. Macdonald. The event—featuring historic tours in downtown Mesa and the West 2nd Street district, an awards ceremony for student contest winners, and free pizza and cupcakes—will be open to all.  Mesa Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A fire at a Tesla dealership in Mesa was investigated as possible arson on April 28th after the word —theif— was spray painted on a back wall near Southern Avenue and Sossaman Road; two police cars blocked the entrance at 7:30 a.m. as employees were turned away and the scene remains active.  The Arizona Republic
  • Authorities in Mesa indicted Cruzita Leon, 35, for selling fentanyl that led to Todd Gordon’s death after text messages arranged the deal back in November 2024. Leon faces charges including manslaughter and selling lethal fentanyl under the new Arizona law — a class 2 felony — as investigators secured evidence through undercover buys.  Mesa Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arizona families are turning lowered baby costs into future college savings with the AZ529 Education Savings Plan—this tax-advantaged, state-sponsored program lets parents, grandparents and others begin with as little as $15 a month to shift money from expenses like diapers, formula and childcare into a fund for higher education. The plan offers eligible tax deductions and tax-free growth to support students' college expenses later on.  Mesa Independent

  • The Mesa City Council voted unanimously on April 21 to recommend approval of a series 12 liquor license for Bambada Cajun Seafood & K Food (a Mesa restaurant serving lunch and dinner) that will allow the establishment to serve alcohol once finalized.  Mesa Independent
