  • Tomorrow on April 19, Mesa Councilmember Julie Spilsbury will host her annual free spring breakfast and Easter egg hunt at Greenfield Park from 8-10 a.m. The event will feature more than 6,000 hidden eggs—along with games, crafts, and a petting zoo to engage local families.  Mesa Independent

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New numbers from the Economic Policy Institute show that child care in Arizona costs more than college tuition—infant care averages over $15,000 a year and preschool care runs about $14,000. Melinda Gulick from First Things First said she has seen costs spike to as high as $25,000 for infant care.  KJZZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than half of Arizona’s public and charter school districts have signed a U.S. Department of Education letter—this letter tells schools to follow civil rights law and stop using programs that favor one race. Mesa Public Schools will vote on signing soon and all districts must decide by April 24 to keep federal funding.  KJZZ
