- ➤ On April 3, regulators opened a docket to examine how secret utility contracts may be causing homeowners to pay 7.4% more per kWh as data centers see a smaller 3% rise, and researchers urge ending such confidential deals—calling for clear, transparent pricing. APS spokeswoman Ann Porter noted that while rates remain as approved on tariff sheets, stakeholders continue to press for reforms to ensure fair cost-sharing. 12 News
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Commerce said a new 21% tariff on Mexican tomatoes will start in July to help U.S. farmers compete — studies show the fee may cause over $3 billion in losses and cost many jobs in Arizona, especially in Nogales. KJZZ

- ➤ Last week, the Mesa Planning and Zoning Board unanimously recommended that Council approve Elliot Barkan Development’s request to rezone 3.5 vacant acres at the corner of Sossaman Road and Main Street for 45 townhomes in east Mesa. Residents in the nearby age-restricted Mesa East community oppose the plan—saying it could bring extra traffic and changes that may hurt their quiet neighborhood—while the Council has not set a hearing date.
