ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, 30 workers used chainsaws to clear dry roadside brush in Las Sendas, northeast Mesa, to lower wildfire risks near Tonto National Forest. Mesa Fire officials — hopeful of more neighborhoods joining the FireWise program — plan to expand the initiative soon.  ABC15 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a bill on Monday that would have opted Arizona into a federal tax credit program for private school scholarships (the bill would have provided $1,700 in credits to donors) due to concerns over unclear federal oversight.  KJZZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that suicide rates in Arizona and Maricopa County increased in 2023 to about 19.22 deaths per 100K based on CDC and coalition data. They warn that without sustained intervention the rising trend may continue.  Mesa Independent
