- ➤ Friends for Life, a Gilbert no-kill shelter, has announced its annual golf fundraiser All—fore the Animals on April 26 at Superstition Springs Golf Club in Mesa with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers as the presenting sponsor. Check-in will run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. and the tournament will start at 7:30 a.m., with all proceeds benefiting shelter operations. Mesa Independent

- ➤ Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott donated over half a million dollars to Reach Out and Read, and Arizona’s affiliate will receive $50,000 to launch a monthly donor program that helps clinics give books to kids during wellness checks—Dr. Gretchen Hull said 160 clinics will benefit from this effort to boost early literacy.
