- ➤ Kenneth Cost will retire as chief of the Mesa Police Department on June 30 — he served 30 years, led the department since 2019, and oversaw major changes including hiring over 300 officers and opening a new station. A new chief will be named in June by incoming City Manager Scott Butler. Mesa Independent
